Enchanted Backpack comes to St. Angela!
Thanksgiving wishes to all!
Follow that arrow the hear our kindergarteners singing (Class of 2028!) their Thanksgiving prayer and to view a slideshow of St. Angela scholars of all ages. More images of our Thanksgiving prayer service, and more images of the kindergartners preparing for it, can be seen here.
Enchanted Backpack, a Chicago area foundation that serves under-resourced schools, has joined the team of organizations who support St. Angela! Their first visit was a memorable one. It took a team of faculty, staff and O'Rourke Prep scholars to unload their two vans on a chilly November day -- and then the whole school welcomed our new friends at a rousing assembly in the gym.
Enchanted Backpack boxes include school and classroom supplies, incentive items for boys and girls, toothpaste, classroom rugs, games, books, shoes and socks, balls, bulletin board materials.....something for everyone!
We are so grateful for the Enchanted Backpack team, and for the donors who make their generosity possible. To learn more about them visit their website.
St. Angela's Centennial Year Liturgy
Green Dreams Update
It was a gray and drippy day outside but in the gym everything was warm and fuzzy! Msgr. Kenneth Velo presided at a Mass, in the Jack Jordan Gym, accompanied by Fr. Jack Ryan, Fr. Jim Flynn, Fr. Tom McDermott and Deacon William Pouncey. A procession of students, alumni, current and former members of the faculty entered to the sound of chiming bells and set the tone for a celebration of one hundred years of history in the Austin neighborhood. Following the liturgy, Msgr. Velo blessed the newly developed garden in the Potomac field, particularly the statue of St. Angela returned to our campus with the help of generous alumni.
It seemed this field, this wall, this portion of our campus would never be finished but it is--mostly! Our major goals, the tuckpointing and painting of the wall that was adjacent to the church, the installation of a garden surrounding the restored statue of St. Angela, and a sign identifying our school are in place and, we think, absolutely awesome! Enjoy the slides, but please, come and visit!
